April 5, 2023

Spring has arrived in the Texas Hill Country, and the month of April brings with it the promise of new growth and renewed energy.

The fields and forests burst into bloom, and the air is filled with the sweet fragrance of wildflowers. This is a season of transformation, and it’s the perfect time to take a fresh look at our surroundings and consider how we can enhance them.

As we welcome this new season, it’s important to note that April is also a time of significant weather changes in the Texas Hill Country. The region experiences frequent thunderstorms and occasional hailstorms during this month, making it a challenge for gardeners and landscapers. However, with careful planning and expert design, it’s possible to create gardens that thrive in this unique environment.

Flora and garden design have been a passion of mine for years, and I’m excited to announce the new direction my business is taking. After working as a Principal Landscape Architect Designer for Spring Creek Gardens for two years, I’ve decided to continue with my business that owns business and pursue my passion for building community and creating beautiful gardens through flora and garden design. I’m grateful to all the clients at Spring Creek Gardens that have made me feel that every design is very special.

At Flora Gardens Design, we serve clients in various areas in the Texas Hill Country, including Dripping Springs, TX, Blanco, TX, Spring Branch, TX, Canyon Lake, TX, Bulverde, TX, San Antonio, TX, New Braunfels, TX, Wimberley, TX, Fischer, TX, and Boerne, TX. We believe that every location has its own unique characteristics, and we take into account the local flora and climate when designing and building our gardens. Whether you’re in a suburban area or a more rural location, we have the expertise to create a garden that is not only beautiful but also functional and sustainable.

Our main focus is on designing and building kitchen gardens, from start to finish. We offer consultations, coaching workshops, and installation services to help clients create a beautiful and functional garden that meets their unique needs and preferences.

Our process begins with a consultation, during which we work closely with the client to understand their vision for their garden. We take into account their preferences, lifestyle, and the natural features of the site to create a garden design that is tailored to their needs.

Next, we use our expertise in landscape architecture and design to create a sustainable, easy-to-maintain garden plan that is in harmony with the local flora and surrounding environment. We pay close attention to every detail to ensure that the garden is not only beautiful but also functional and efficient.

Finally, we use top-quality materials and plants to bring the garden to life. Our installation team is skilled and experienced, ensuring that every aspect of the garden is installed to the highest standards.

I’m also excited to announce that we will be offering workshops and events to the community to share our knowledge and passion for flora and garden design. One of the workshops that I’m starting is a culinary experience from kitchen garden to table, featuring Argentinian campfire flatbread infused with garlic, herbs, and tomato campfire. We are grateful to Guadalupe Coffee for opening up their space for our workshops and events, and we can’t wait to continue growing with the community and sharing our love of flora and garden design.

In conclusion, we are thrilled to be embarking on this new direction for Flora Gardens Design. Our passion for building community and designing beautiful, functional gardens is at the heart of everything we do, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Transforming Landscaping with Edible Plants: Gone are the days when landscaping only involved growing ornamental plants. Today, more and more people are opting for edible plants to create functional landscapes that not only look good but also provide a variety of fresh produce. Edible landscaping is the practice of using food-producing plants in landscape design. In addition to being sustainable, it can help reduce food miles and promote local food systems. Here are some ways to transform your landscaping with edible plants: Creating Kitchen Gardens with Raised Bed and Intensive Planting : One popular method for creating edible gardens is by using raised beds and intensive planting. This technique involves closely spacing plants to maximize yield and minimize space. For the hill country south of Texas, it’s important to choose deer-resistant plants or use physical barriers like fencing or netting to prevent predators from destroying your hard work. Despite the challenges, the rewards of creating a kitchen garden with raised beds and intensive planting are well worth the effort. Not only do you get to enjoy fresh, healthy produce right from your backyard, but you also contribute to a more sustainable way of living.

As the owner and founder of Flora and Grandes Design in 2021, my landscape architecture studio seamlessly integrates landscape art and architecture to sculpt beautiful and functional spaces. Since founding my Studio-FV in 2008, I have brought my unique perspective on design, rooted in my background in architecture and my Architecture Master’s degree, to landscape design, resulting in a significant impact on the field. My work has been recognized by the architecture community, including a nomination for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) for Emerging Architecture in 2014. This nomination is a testament to my ability to create innovative designs that are both visually stunning and practical. In addition, I have been published in several industry publications, including Landscape Architecture Magazine and Garden Design Magazine. These publications showcase my expertise in turnkey kitchen garden design and my commitment to promoting sustainable living through outdoor spaces. In my work, I incorporate sustainable design principles, ensuring that my designs are environmentally responsible and designed to last. I believe that every element of a space must be carefully considered to create an exceptional outdoor space that promotes growth and connection.
